Around 12 years ago, I started taking photos as a hobby. At first, I used to carry a camera with me all day long and would take photos of my sisters, my mother, and sometimes maybe my friends. As a school kid, there was not much to do. Seeing my interest in photography, my mom took me to photography school. The mentor there was a wedding photographer, and from there I became a wedding photographer.

So my hobby became my profession, and pretty good amount of earnings were coming as well. After all of this happened, one thing was missed: I stopped taking other photos and used to take photos only at weddings.

Then I realized why seeing photography as a hobby rather than a profession is important.

Photography will make you notice everything
When you are taking photos, you are continuously observing everything, every detail that is happening around you. It asks you to see why it is happening, what is happening, and how it is happening. It not only makes you see everything but also makes you present in the moment. With this, you start predicting what can happen and how it will look beautiful.

It motivates you to experience more
I am a very homesick person, do not go out every day, and prefer sleeping over going out. When you take photos as a hobby, it will make you go out, maybe to a festival, maybe to a children’s park, or maybe to a market. Usually, you may not go there, but you are going to take photos and explore what is happening.

Photography will connect you with other people
There is a high chance that if you start photography, you will look for other people to go out and take small photo walks with, and this will make you meet new people.

There is also a high chance that they will be creative souls, and they will help you develop your photos. And also there is a high chance that through social media you are going to connect with new people because everybody likes to see beautiful things.

It helps you document your life
Photography helps you capture your life, and it will be archived very well. It will create a family book for your future generations.

Suppose your family is having a birthday party, it is your birthday, or it is your loved one’s birthday. That will create huge documentation, and if you have kids, they will have fun all day long, and you can take photos of them. After years, it will bring you joy seeing the old version of them, and definitely you will be a great source of documentation for your family as well.

It will increase your problem-solving skill and your patience
Photography is creative, yet it is technical. You need to know a lot of technical things to practice photography properly. You need to know your camera and its modes, at which mode how it will perform, and you need to know the characteristics of your lens. Yes, it is technical.

In terms of your patience, you will face days when you will not be able to make any photos. Maybe on another day, you will make 7–8 great photos, and that motivation will make you run here and there for photos.

If you are reading till now, I really hope you are convinced that photography is a good hobby. Please do let me know what you think about it.
